IMPORTANT AGM INFORMATION
Posted: 8 April 2009
Hi drummers,
Please come along to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the African Drumming Club!
When is it on?
Wednesday the 22nd April at 5pm, in the Frank Tate Building.
We will meet under the big tree outside Deep Dish Cafe first, then follow up the meeting with our usual rehearsal.
What does it involve?
The AGM is a chance for us all to get together and discuss the direction of the club. We will recap the past year and consider the life of the club in the next year. Please bring along any ideas you have about the club and be ready to voice them.
The AGM is also when we elect a new committee. The available positions are:
President- The president leads the club. They promote the club, sign-up new members, liase with Chris to organise rehearsals, and organise performances, camps, and social outings for us. Suits someone who can take control.
Treasurer- The treasurer is in charge of the clubs finances. They collect rehearsal fees each week, pay Chris for teaching us, manage our bank account, and apply for grants from the union. Suits someone who is organised.
Secretary- The secretary is in charge of communication between club members, our teachers, and our performance offers. This involves checking the club email account, occassional phone calls with teachers/ performance offers, updating and maintaining the club website and occassional discussions with the student union. Suits someone who is rganised and has good people skills.
General Committee (x3) – General assistance in running the club, leadership at rehearsals. Suits people with enthusiasm!
Please consider taking up one of these roles. They only involve a short amount of your time each week if everyone contributes, and are a way to give back to the club! It’s a fun experience, and looks great on your resume too. All club members are welcome to nominate and be nominated for these positions. We encourage new people to have a go, and for people to step outside their comfort zones and try things they haven’t done before. However, please do not run for these positions if you are not prepared to commit at least some time each week to making the club better for everyone!!!
We will also be moving to include the following clauses into the African Drumming Club constitution:
21. The profits (if any) or other income and property of the club must be applied solely towards the promotion of the aims of the club as set out in this Constitution and no portion of it may be paid or transferred, directly or indirectly, to any member of the club whether by way of dividend, bonus or other profits. This does not prevent any payment in good faith by the club for the payment or reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses incurred by a member of the club on behalf of the club.
22. If the club is wound up, any money remaining after the payment of all debts, liabilities and expenses must not be paid or distributed to the members but must be transferred to the C&S Committee of UMSU.
If you have any questions about the roles or anything else to do with the AGM, feel free to email us.
Look forward to seeing you all this Wednesday for our usual rehearsal, and then dinner out at the Moroccan Soup Bar.
There will be no rehearsal the following week as it is the Easter break.
Then see you all on the 22nd of April for the important AGM!!!!!
