Welcome Back - Semester 1, 2009
Posted: 24 March 2009
Hello everyone,
Welcome back to you all for semester 1, 2009. We are four week in already, can you believe it?!
For those of you not familiar with the African Drumming Club, we meet weekly outside Deep Dish Café under the big tree at 5:15pm every Wednesday for rehearsal in the Frank Tate building from 5:30-7pm-ish. We often also go out for dinner afterwards. We play music from west Africa, mainly Ghana. We learn drum parts, rattle, bell, singing and dancing. The club also does performances, both at uni (open days, etc) and outside of uni.
Club membership costs $2/$5 and rehearsals cost $5/$8, depending on whether you are a student union member. All instruments are provided by our wonderful professional instructor Chris, and we also have a couple of club drums which can be leant out to members to practise on during the week between rehearsals
We welcome people of all (or no) experience, you just have to be enthusiastic!
For existing drummers, don’t forget that here on the website is the music and words for lots of the songs that we play. Just look for the link on the Latest News entry from Aug 8 2008.
It would also be great for a few more of the existing members to come to rehearsal. The last few weeks have seen mainly new drummers, and they have been really great rehearsals.
Hope to see you all on Wednesday!
